I usually love Jo's books and her ability to seamlessly weave a sense of time and place with the story she's telling. Case in point, the way she describes the address of Phyllis' house (sign of 2 doves on whatever street that was). Or how she uses the Hardwicke Act to discuss the legality of Christian and Caro's marriage.

You said: Let’s just say that no one is as honest as they should be or shares information when they should.

This bothered me. A lot. I found it hard to believe there was anything real to Christian and Caro's romance because their relationship was built on deception. I was not engaged by these two and as a result it took me a week to get around to finishing it.

I'm glad you liked it and I know quite a few others liked it too. Jo's writing is so easy to read. But as a romance, this one left me rather unsatisfied. Sorry.
