I just loved, loved Judd, too, Willa; CBI is my favorite of the series.

Sandy just as Brenna resonates with her desolation of not being able to shift, losing a part of herself, it's the same with Judd and his logic, he can't function any other way than being cold, focused and logical. That is, until he meets and falls for Brenna and struggles with those emotions buried very deep down inside him starting to surface, floundering as you say, and at a loss what to do with them. Therefore, he really knows and understands what she's going through, the only one she can open up to about that loss of self and fears, the one who doesn't patronize her.

Agree with you - Nalini Singh is a hugely talented author. I discovered her last year and had the pleasure of glomming the lot. Great consistent worldbuilding and characterisation - and Caressed By Ice is my overall fave - love, love, love Judd!

Have just picked up Angel's Blood - the first in her new Guild Hunter series - have heard great things about that too.
