Book CoverLynne Connolly‘s review of Murder Game (GhostWalkers, Book 7) by Christine Feehan
Contemporary paranormal romantic suspense released by Jove 30 Dec 08

Feehan’s latest entry in the GhostWalker series features the remaining single member of the original team, Kadan, and Tansy, a woman with the ability to “read” people if she touches something they have touched.

Kadan seeks out Tansy where she is photographing a mountain lion for a magazine. Kadan is the first person she can touch without gloves on because he’s an ‘anchor’ to her abilities and can shield her. He’s seeking a serial killer, the mastermind behind a team that has killed on both coasts of the US, and because they are all enhanced like him, he needs Tansy’s help tracking them down.  The story takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride of danger and hot sex.

Feehan is an instinctive writer, and so there are some loose ends that bothered me a little. The mountain lion start fizzled into nothing, and I wondered where the authorities were in this story. While I know that the GhostWalker teams work for a mysterious “General” and have clearance, I’m not sure that meant they could travel over the US, killing people without another agency getting involved. Some of their targets were serial killers, and so surely there must have been some official investigation? However, you don’t stop to think until the story is over.

It’s a breakneck chase, during the course of which Kadan and Tansy stop for quite a few torrid love scenes. Feehan does use purple prose on occasion, but her sex scenes are beautiful, and transmit sizzling hot sex and deep emotion. Kadan falls for Tansy on sight, but it takes Tansy a while to come around. I found Kadan sexy and interesting, with a depth of character that Tansy sometimes lacked, but she was filled-in enough to make the reader care for her. There is one part of the story where I wanted to slap her—she put the whole team in danger, but on the whole, she managed to be brave without being stupid, and I’m really grateful for that.

One character didn’t get the retribution I think he deserved and the ending was a bit rushed, but I can say I enjoyed the book thoroughly, and if you go along for the great ride Feehan takes you on, you’ll probably enjoy it too.

A solid B+ for me.
