Enough said. 3 Guesses as to who wrote this post π (i.e., unsurprising I’m the one who wrote this.)
Here at The Good, The Bad, [and] The Unread (TGTBTU/ The Pond) we’re giving away an ARC of Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas. That’s a pretty special giveaway, so for once we’re making you do a bit more work.
We’re not fond of cheating, so email your answers to theduckeez@gmail.com. Do not post answers here. If you do, we will curse you and the evil duckling will find you and beat you to death. And the comment will be deleted if it has the answers. Discussion comments are fine and welcome.
A word to the wise – all the answers can be found here, on this blog, or on Ms. Kleypas’s website (or the real no brainers which if you can’t find you don’t deserve to win e.g. book release dates). Without further ado… good luck!
1. What is the release date for Smooth Talking Stranger? Who is the publisher?
2. What are the names of the hero and heroine in Smooth Talking Stranger?
3. Lisa was first published at the infant age of…?
4. How many books are listed on Lisa’s a) historical page b) contemporary page?
5. RITA award(s). Lisa. Go. [Yes? No? If so what book(s)?]
6. What was the release date for A Wallflower Christmas? The Publisher?
7. In the passage/excerpt from Blue-Eyed Devil, where a female on the radio is singing “Summertime” – when Hardy visits Haven in her office, where does he say he wants to take her?
8. Which Lisa Kleypas book/hero does Sybil MADLY LOVE? (Hint: It’s the same. Also, fyi, this site is Syb’s “brain child.”)
9. A gimme question… has Lisa Kleypas ever had a guest author day/visited at the pond? (Bonus points if you find the dates- but you really don’t have to.)
10. How many characters are on the “Book-Hopping Characters” page at Lisa’s site. Which is your favorite, and why? (Bonus points if you pick mine! … kidding… OR AM I?)
11. Bonus question!: Explain/reason the cover of “Smooth Talking Stranger.” (Obviously there’s no right/wrong answer here.)
12. Double Bonus: Why are there so many reviewers at the pond with “L” names? (This is for pure entertainment value.)

Ah yes, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! π
p.s. – you’re allowed to ignore the “bonus” parts.
p.p.s. – bonus points for writing out, and translating all the Latin abbreviations
Am I reading this wrong or did lime not put an end date to the contest?
tsk tsk and I am the one on meds… lol
… I was leaving that up to you, of course π *blinks innocently*
Erm… the contest will end Sunday, January 3rd, 2009. Be advised.
Oh, I’ve never read anything by this author but this one sounds like something I might like..
Happy new years, guys!
Wendy – REALLY? wow – huh, for some reason I’d thought you had. I love her historicals, and am really enjoying her contemporaries as well. π You should definitely check Lisa Kleypas’s backlist- I’m sure any number of people would be happy to give you suggestions.
What a great way to start of the New Year. Wendy, you must try her books. I’m big on historicals and she’s one of my top authors, and even though I don’t have time to read as many contemps, I finally tried hers and love them just as much.
Oh, this is so not fair! I want to play! I love this trilogy and am looking forward to Jack’s story. The excerpt I just read made me want it that much more. And that’s exactly why I hardly ever read excerpts!
Wendy, I’ve only read Lisa’s contemps so far — yes, all of her historicals are in my TRB mountain! — but you have to read these. They’re just terrific!
Pam – wouldn’t winning this be awesome? The duckies are pea green with envy! π I feel the same way you do. I’m really not big on first person point of view at all… but I really like Ms. Kleypas’s contemporaries.
Sandy – haha, yeah -I’d love to have this as well. Too bad. And YOU HAVEN’T READ HER HISTORICALS YET? Get you gone! π Stop whatever you’re reading now and move those to the top of the list! Sheesh!
Lime – you’re only giving people two days? Harsh.
And so many of us have L names because it’s a cool letter.
Liv- the two days came from the top – Sybil. Although I haven’t gotten any entries yet. So maybe it’ll go longer? (ORRRRRRRRR it’s a reward for the people who visit the blog!)
π I like your answer. But now that you said it nobody else can use it π [kidding]
Hi Limecello,
Wanted to double check, is it only for US residents are can everyone play?
I did put in my entry, so I hope you have received it.
I’m really looking forward to reading LK’s newest contemp! Any news on her next historical…sorry to be greedy.:-)
Carol – remind me to check later. Although it’s “early” (12:25 AM but my brain has shut down.) I’m not sure about it being limited to the US or not – this is really Sybil’s thing and I just came up w/ contest things for her b/c she’s on meds etc. – Accordingly, I’m sure your entry went through – we tested the email addresses and all. (It works.)
I’m also not sure about the next historical. I’d imagine it continues the (Hathaway, right?) series. The first was my favorite.
AREN’T I SO HELPFUL? :X
Limecello, really! I did check out her booklist and her contemporaries sound good so I’m going to read this one when it comes out. π
If you have sent an email you should have gotten one back from me saying I got it. If not please resend. Unless you JUST sent it then I prolly just haven’t gotten to it yet.
We did test the email but things get spammed and whatev.
We can extend til Monday at midnight CST if you wanna be extra nice lime dear up to you ;). I R teh easy.
Great contest and questions. I’ll be sending an e-mail shortly. I like both LK’s historicals and contemporaries. Not many authors could pull off writing in the first person, yet it made her first two contemporaries unique.
I read on another site that the next historical is entitled, Tempt Me At Twilight. It’s Poppy’s story and is due out on October 1.
Wendy – not so much into historicals?
Sybs – Okok. MONDAY, JANUARY 4TH, MIDNIGHT, CST IT IS. Even though 3 is one of my favorite numbers… so those bonus answers better be good π
Kim – Haha – thanks on the questions. And I agree with you. When I saw the title of LK’s first contemporary… I blanched. I mean, Sugar Daddy – really?!
And I knew the next sister was up – haha, she’s going to run out of times of day for titles! π
Sandy M, move those historicals up top of your pile, you don’t know what you’re missing. Start with Derek, Dreaming of You.
Devil in Winter is soooooooo much better than Dreaming of You
just saying
NATCH! Not better, different. Sheesh Sybil π
Good suggestion, Pam – might I also recommend Suddenly You, and hell – any of the other ones π (esp the ones on the “Who Will Win” post.
Limecello, not really. I mean, I’ve read a few but they have to sound really good for me to give them a try.
Wendy – that explains a lot. π But I’d suggest Lisa Kleypas, Eloisa James, and Christina Dodd (her olderish ones) for historicals, just off the top of my head.
By any chance will you be posting a new excerpt from Smooth Talking Stranger in conjunction with your contest?? You always seem to get fun little excerpts to post.
Sarah – I’m sure we’ll have an excerpt at some point, so stop back!
As for the dates… wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. I blame not having really slept in… oh hell – over a month now? Today is Saturday the 3rd. The original contest ending date was to be tomorrow, Sunday, the FOURTH.
But NOW, the FINAL ending date is MONDAY the FIFTH. Of January. In the year AD 2009. >.<
(Unless someone butters up Sybil and convinces her to extend the end date :P)
Suddenly You is another favorite of mine, if you come across that one first, Sandy, but really, look for Dreaming of You, despite what Sybil says, lol.
I nearly cried thinking I missed this contest opportunity as I read through the post and comments just now. I mean, seriously…. I felt that sting in the corner of my eyes… y’all would have heard me sobbing across the continent. Thanks for extending the deadline, gals.
Fantastic contest. I’m working on this one right now… π
p.s. Happy New Year, duckies!
Christine – no problem on the extensions. I heart them myself, personally. Much love.
And Happy New Year to you too! π
I can’t believe I missed this contest. *cries*
Awe, sad, Brie – you can try sneaking in an entry and seeing if Sybil is feeling generous π
Limecello, thanks for the recs! I’ll definitely look them up.
Wendy – great π Let me know what you think of them!
Hi all,
Has a winner been announced? I hope I didn’t miss it.
Carol – nope, you haven’t missed anything. We’re finishing up some things to make sure its all kosher, and a winner should be announced soon! π Thanks for making sure we’re on track though!
