This type of reaction to a relatively tame review doesn’t make me want to give her a second try anytime soon though.

Haha- and thank you Sybil. That’s exactly what I have been trying to say. Probably it’ll have more weight coming from you. And… yes. I do feel differently now. I’m getting my own damn migraine. Hopefully yours goes away soon.

I already have a migraine so maybe that is why I can’t wrap my arms around that idea. Or maybe it is just cuz I find it to be a stupid. Like many people see me thinking that average doesn’t have to equal TEH BIG BAD EVOL.

It is what it is. People are welcome to agree or disgree with any review be it a reader or author. So it has nothing to do with liking the review or the site. Hellif I care, people can disagree with lime, I do it all the time. People can disagree with me – many do, all the time. Was she insluting to the genre? I don’t recall her review reading like a dis on erotica but even if she was than disagree with her, trying to mock her or point out how the reviewer is stupid while you are oh so clever – reeks.

And really I would rather people pick up a romance, read it and not like it than just dismiss it out of hand without ever reading it. I would like that person to be able to talk about the book without a fear of people making them feel like an asshole for disliking it. And I would hope people would offer them rec’s to fit what they liked to encourage them to read more. The response to the review doesn’t encourage a reader to read more of a genre or an author.

In fact one thing I say over and over and over is a C grade here is ALWAYS an author the reviewer would read again. It is a book that might have been an average read for the reader but she sees something that would make her want to pick back up that author. It is a big thing between what makes a read a “C” or a “D” grade. I would bet since the review went up to right this second lime prolly feels differently about if she would pick up another book by the author or not. Of course maybe that was the authors point?

I’m not much of one for erotica, but I was asked to write a review for one, and I happened to have this book lying around, so I decided to read it. I admit to being intrigued, but still somewhat unsure.

Eh, I thought the post was funny. She didn’t get that a C wasn’t a bad review but an average one, which I think caused her confusion. The first part of the original post is how you flipped between nice and bad things which confused her.

It’s a great thing when a reader tries something new and is pleasantly surprised. If it doesn’t work out, hey, maybe some one else will like it. I always mention whether or not I’ve read something else by the author, similar types of books, what my expectations were, etc. It gives others an idea of where I’m coming from in my review.

The contest would have been great fun, if the author hadn’t expressed how upset she was with the review. It makes it a bit sour grape-y. Else, it would’ve just been quirky fun.

BTW, did you know that Pearl was Jenny Calendar on S2 of Buffy (the best season of TV ever)? Random factoid.

No, I don’t think anyone is obligated to like something because it’s free, or else why ARCs? But when we win a contest from a third party site, should we namecheck it? For instance, I won “Cry Wolf” from Avid Reader. If I review it for the site, it just seems like it would be the right thing to do to give Keishon a thank you for the book-since it was a contest.

And per typos, ironically she blogged about being caught on a big one just a few days ago. AT will take the piss out of her ownself. While I can see that you’re a mama bear (!), I don’t think that Ms. Tyler quite belongs in the pantheon of Authors Behaving Badly along with some of the worst. I think she’s got a quirky sense of humor and she’s having some fun with a typo in a review.

Sigh. Gotta go to work now.

The contest was funny, the thing that got me was just how stupid it is to try and make the people you are wanting to buy your books feel stupid. For trying to put rules of how dare you not like something you got for free. And of course the general idea behind don’t read a book that is a genre that is outside your comfort zone.

Sort of flies in the face of what laura d was saying. She has done great things for women, ok but only if you like everything she writes? Only if you edit your thoughts on a reader blog better than the books themselves because I would be shocked as shit if there are no – not one – typo in any of her books cuz she has a ton published she has written and edited.

But I tend to agree with you any review is a good review because “I” buy off ‘bad’ reviews all the time. Or will pick something up because of one for whatever reason.

Then again, I’m the one who went ahead and put up the DNF review of the ghost book.

The contest was funny, actually, if she hadn’t been so indignant, for no good reason, IMO. But didn’t we just discuss whether or not reviewers should review books outside of their comfort zone? lime said why the book didn’t work for her, and she liked things about the book as well, that she mentioned. Readers are smart enough to take what they want from a review, and I bet as many would be intrigued as turned off by what she wrote.

Seriously screw that crap. It was a contest book that lime won she could or could not have reviewed it. She did, the author has no right to bitch at a reader for whatever the fuck she says in a review.

You don’t want a book in a contest you give away reviewed – DONT DO CONTESTS. This response was completely classless and stupid and leaves nothing but a bad taste in my mouth.

You can review her, hell anyone is welcome to guest review her, I am open to that for readers. Because this is a READER blog. READER

AS in the fucking people who buy the books… so feel free to use all the I’s, me, or you thinks you want in your review. Personaly “I” think I will be skipping right by anything she writes and will not be buying her unless I seriously like the author she is editing. And guess what? I don’t think she will cry over the loss.

Then again I wouldn’t think an author with this many years under her belt would whine over such a stupid ass thing as a C review.

An average book for a VERY below average writer from how she has acted. And if that is snarky of me – oh fucking well.
