I had no problem with the flashbacks in the first one, so probably won't with this one either; in fact I rather liked it rather than a quick prologue or bit about their past all at once, thought it gave me more insight into their motivations and some scenes done that way. The long separations aren't that unbelievable for me either, thinking of a few people I know in real life, and and old flame or two when I was younger that looking back, may have turned out different if we'd clicked later on after they had matured a bit more - still friends with one and now he has grown up and has a different outlook and has regrets.
