Contest: 3 times the Awesome with Liz Carlyle, a Rake and Romance(s) CLOSED
Wednesday, July 30, 2008 9:00
Never Romance a Rake, the final book in Liz Carlyle’s latest trilogy, was released on 22 July 2008. We know that Sybil loved it, and by clicking on that link, you can read a great excerpt as well.
Baron Rothewell lives a dark, shuttered existence by day, and a life of reckless abandon by night. Scarred by a childhood filled with torment and deprivation, Rothewell cares very little anyone or anything. His life on the edge of ruin suits him—until he meets a man who just might be his nemesis. The Comte de Valigny likes to play deeply and dangerously, but Rothewell’s recklessness is undeterred. Until one night when de Valigny wagers something just a little more valuable than gold.
Mademoiselle Marchand is a desperate woman in a strange land, and her pleading eyes seem to swallow Lord Rothewell body and soul—assuming he still has one. Now the baron must play his hand with the utmost care, for at last something meaningful is at stake . . .
In honor of (to quote Sybil) “the historical of the summer”, TGTBTU presents…
A Contest!
We have ten copies of each book in the trilogy to give to give away! That’s right, thirty books!
The first two books:

I love Liz Carlyle and her ability to create genuine emotion in her writing. There are several of hers that stand out including Beauty Like the Night and The Devil You Know, but my favorite remains My False Heart. Elliot is a tired, jaded man who accidentally encounters the heroine and her family and falls as much in love with her family as he does Evie. They are a balm to his troubled soul and it is wonderfully, touchingly, and humorously written. Hmmm…. must go re-read.
I have the first 2 in this trilogy so I’d like to be entered for a copy of NRAR. I have been saving them to read all 3 back to back.

I was an intern at Pocket when the One Little…Two Little… trilogy was going into print. I was handed her backlist by her editor and I remember how much I enjoyed The Deal with the Devil. At times it felt very Karen Hawkins-ish, but I loved that we were always one step behind the author. She was always in complete control and by choosing not to reveal Aubrey’s secret until the end, it kept me enthralled until the end. I’m embarrassed to reveal that I haven’t picked up a Carlyle book since One Little Sin. I have heard great things about her latest, however, and would be interested in receiving that one. Thanks!

I haven’t ready any of her books. Admitedly i have been shying away from the historical romances lately. I used to devour them, but I had gotten sick of them. I am slowly starting to get back into them.
That being said, why should I win? Well, because my husband and I want to buy a house. So…no new books! *gasp* I would be quite happy with all 3!

My favourite Carlyle book has to be Beauty Like the Night or One Little Sin. I can’t choose! I just love her writing. And her books always engage your emotions – I always feel close to tears reading her books. I wouldn’t mind winning all 3!

I went through a long spell of avoiding historicals that I’m just starting to come out of. I loved Carlyle prior to that. I’m glad to see so many like Beauty Like the Night, ‘cuz I have it in the TBR crate, along with A Woman of Virtue and A Woman Scorned.
AS for this trilogy, I’m starting with the third, I can’t help myself. It sounds gooood. Then I’ll work my way backwards.

My favorites have always been ‘The Devil You Know’ and ‘Devil to Pay’! She really was the author who got me onto the whole regency-period romances in the first place (I had usually hit the sci-fi/fantasy ones, but never into the historical ones, and hers just suck you in…)
I haven’t read any in this trilogy, so I’d love to win them all!

I really enjoy her books but if I had to choose a favorite I would pick A Deal With the Devil. Giles is this uptight character in A Woman Scorned (another favorite of mine) so I wasn’t sure he would be a very interesting hero. I couldn’t have been more wrong. He was so passionate and he risks his whole future for the heroine and for me, that’s a great romance.

I would like to enter this contest for any/ all of these books! I have never read Liz Carlyle before, but I would love to start reading her novels now. I have heard and read such good things about all of her books, I hope I win this contest so I can join in on discussions too. Plus I am always looking for new authors to read, and I love trilogies and period stories!

I haven’t read any of her books, so I’d love to have the chance, especially if one of them is ‘the historical of the summer’ as sybil said, and I tend to agree with her taste in books. All three books sound great, so I wouldn’t mind which one/s I won.

Tough call, but I’ll go with The Devil You Know. Bentley is so stunningly flawed and so intriguing all through her previous books, and finding out what makes him tick is fascinating to me.
I also really enjoy A Deal with the Devil, especially the poor confused virgin widow trying to fake her way through sex.
I hope to win the third book, since I already own the first two in the series. (As well as all her others.)

You know, I had to look up the author’s backlist to be certain on whether I had read any of her books or not. Turns out that I haven’t but I have heard the name mentioned several times. Why should I win? Because I am the kind of booklover who hunts up previous works when I fall in love with an author’s writing…and I am really intrigued with the accolade that you have given to Never Romance A Rake.
Would love to win the book that you consider the ‘Historical of the summer’, but would be happy to get to try whichever book would be available.

The Devil to Pay is my favorite book of Ms. Carlyle’s, although I have enjoyed all the others linked to this one. I can count on great hero and heroine in her books.
I would be thrilled to win a copy of Never Romance a Rake.
Thanks for the opportunity, Sybil.

My favorite is Beauty Like the night. I love Helene and Cam is just so wonderful. The foreshadowing for the future books in the series is also great. She really builds layers within her series, which make the books all the richer. I have read the first two, but haven’t yet gotten to Never Romance a Rake and so would love to be in the running for that one. Thanks!

Oh, that’s something for me. My favourite Carlyle is The Devil You Know, and shortly behind it are about 90 per cent of the rest of her books *g*. I adore it because of its difficult topic and how seriously Carlyle dealt with it. Also, if there has to be a young virgin heroine, please let Carlyle create her. Frederica and Bentley are one of my favourite couple out there!

THREE LITTLE SECRETS was a great book. Since her very first novel, I have been hooked by Liz. This was the first book I’ve read , and I was impressed with the way she wrote. The descriptions were very good without being overblown or flowery. I enjoyed the way she allowed the characters to grow, and the way the relationship progressed.

And right – I’ll play, just for the sake of conversation. Like Marg, my favorite is “No True Gentleman” – loved it, own it, and… apparently need to go find the other books Max is in. [LOVE it. Seriously. What other heroine could say to the hero SPOILER
“yeah, but you shot me!”
So anyway, it’s awesome. For some reason, I don’t think I’ve read many other LC books. I know I tried, but somehow those aren’t popping up. Odd.

I’ve read all LC’s books (except for the latest, so I’d like to enter for that one, please!) and so far my favourite is Beauty Like the Night. Or A Woman Scorned. Depends on the day, sometimes I prefer one, sometimes the other. I just have something for serious, straight-laced guys who can’t help but go wild for the woman they love.

It is so hard to choose only one book. I read all her books including this one and I LOVE it. I am very agree to “the historical of the summer”. But if I have to, I’d select A Woman Scorned. I love Jonna and more than that I love Cole. I love his patience until he snap and firework happened.
I’d like to enter for the contest. I already have all three books but I intent to give it to my friend who hesitates to read LC’s book.

Like a lot of other romance readers I tend to read one type or the other until I’m “full” so to speak. All the plots seem alike and all the heros and heroines begin to seem self-indulgent or silly. Then I move on to another subgenrue of romance. I’ve been on a supernatural romance kick for a while and have just about had all the Alpha werewolves, angst filled vampires and other of those sorts. I’m ready for a CHANGE. This would be a perfect way to start reading historicals again. I’ve seen bits and pieces of Liz Caryle’s series but didn’t want to “start in the middle” of a series and was still on a supernatural kick. Be my “change agent” and let me win on of these books.
