Wow, I feel like the odd girl out.

While I thought it was well-written (and had one of the most three-dimensional villains I’ve ever read in a romance), I thought the revenge plot overwhelmed the romantic aspect. Lucy…hmmm…I never felt she had a character beyond being sweet and patient and innocent.

While I did like Simon, I’m a reader who tends to be annoyed by heroes who forestall arguments with their heroines by distracting them with mindless sex, but’s just me. ^_^

Simon surprised me. At first, I think he’s acting the bored aristo and sees a distraction in Sophie. But perhaps his psyche sees more in her than he’s willing to admit. Simon has truly lost his soul in his quest for vengeance. Sophie is so clean, and practical, and forthright that she is truly his salvation. The only way he can find his way back to himself.

It’s a beautifully written plot.

This was without question THE best historical I read last year (well, perhaps tied with Goodman’s If His Kiss Is Wicked). I loved it and I’ve reread it several times. And it’s still just as good the next go round.

Keishon – you’re referring to Hot by Julia Harper (Hoyt’s contemporary pseudonym)? Lawson gave it a D. I haven’t read it yet.

I really, really liked TSP, K. The writing is intense, consistently good, and the characters are true to themselves throughout.

I didn’t care for her contemporary. Is her voice in historicals that much different? Obviously because I think Gwen read her contemporary, didn’t you? And loved this book, too. Interesting.

I’ll have to give her a shot but – I’m wary. Sybil loves it and we are soooooo opposite of each other, lol. Most times.

I felt exactly the same way about this book. Exactly! I just re-read it not that long ago and loved it just as much that time as all the previous ones. I was so surprised at how deep it was. I wasn’t expecting it at all. Wonderful read.

Isn’t it sad. So very very very very sad that Syb (that would be ME for those of you NOT playing the home game) just about gave this book sloppy kisses like months and months and months before it came out.
