Call of Temptation by Michelle PillowSandy M’s review of Call of Temptation (Call of the Lycan, Book 3) by Michelle Pillow
Erotic paranormal romance released by Ellora’s Cave 23 Jan 08

This is the second book I’ve read in this series and I liked it much better than Call of the Sea (book 1). I liked the storyline of turning a human into a werewolf, plus the continuing story from Book 1 of hunting down a traitor of the clan. Both story lines go together and are woven together very well.

I also liked James a little more than I liked older brother and heir Ian in his book. And I even liked Ian better in this book that I did in his. But James is alpha down to his tail, takes his responsibility of keeping the clan and its name safe, and has a soft spot even though we don’t we see it often. He is hunting Meghan, a rogue lycan from Book 1. He has tracked her far and wide and is finally close, but not close enough to save Claudia, Meghan’s latest victim. The clan always takes responsibility for those humans turned, so James is determined to see Claudia though the next couple of weeks as her body either welcomes its new nature or she dies when her body rejects the change. What he never expected was the strength Claudia shows during this process. She surprises him again and again, especially when she demands sex, something his body has wanted all along.

Claudia actually takes becoming a werewolf quite well due to her psychic abilities. She believes in the paranormal, so after her initial shock and anger, she adapts to her new nature. What is especially enticing about that new nature is wanting and demanding sex from James, who she soon begins to fall for. She is counting her blessings when she discovers James wants to use her for her psychic link to Meghan due to the rogue creating her, and she begins to have doubts about James’ feelings her. It is Claudia’s strength that gets her through everything thrown at her since her nightmare began. She stands her ground on issues even when James tells her she’s wrong.

Besides liking the characters better, I felt this book just had more meat to it than the prior one. I just wish it had been longer to work with the story line more, flesh out the relationships further But what was here worked even with that limitation.

Summary:

James O’Connell lives simply, except for the whole hunting werewolves part. As one of the three lycan princes of the O’Connell clan, it’s his duty to enforce the lycan law. When a member of their clan begins killing humans, he’s sent to bring the rogue wolf in.

Claudia Hughes lives an ordinary life as a computer software analyst. Her mother and grandmother had psychic intuition, but hers is severely underdeveloped. Taking a solitary vacation, she trusted where instinct led her and ended up at the end of some crazy woman’s fangs. She’s led into a surreal world where lycans exist and passion for the man who saved her is the least of her worries.
