Predatory Game (GhostWalkers, Book 6) by Christine FeehanGwen’s review of Predatory Game (GhostWalkers, Book 6) by Christine Feehan
Contemporary paranormal romance released by Jove 26 Feb 08

Lately, the Game series by Feehan has been my favorite writing of hers by far.  The recent Carpathian books haven’t been horrible – well, with perhaps the exception of Dark Celebration (blech) – but haven’t been to the standard I expect from Feehan.  These Game novels, though, have always been fun reads.  This one stands out among them as being the best so far.

Saber and Jesse were both very likable, believable characters, for all their paranormal gifts.  I loved their relationship and the ease they had with each other – it’s a true friendship.  I won’t give any spoilers here, but there is one thing that surpised the absolute hell out of me about the hero and I loved it!  I’ve never read that particular element in a book and I thought it was terrific.  You’ll know what I mean when you read it.

The suspense part of the book – the whole mystery over who is trying to kill the GhostWalkers, who is supporting Whitney, where is Whitney – just gets deeper and the stakes higher in this sixth entry in the series.  Unlike the book about Ken, Deadly Game, I felt that the mystery and suspense elements in Predatory Game were nicely interleaved.  In Deadly, it seemed like an afterthought.

This book had another absolutely perfect confession of love from the hero.  The first love scene between the Saber and Jesse is so heartbreakingly beautiful, it made me mist up a bit.  The love story is absolutely the reason to buy this book.  Not to mention Feehan’s trademark sizzling sex.  I want to find my own Jesse, though – he absolutely made the romance romantic.

I don’t have a lot more to say about this book other than if you’re a contemporary paranormal fan, a Feehan fan, or a romantic suspense fan, you’ll be thrilled with Deadly Game.  I do not recommend that readers new to the series start with this book – there’s too much back-story that isn’t rehashed.  But if you’re reading the Game series, you want to read this one.
